Patriotic anti-big-government taxpayers blast through the million protester mark.

Protesters flooded Washington today in what people in the crowd are calling “a conservative Woodstock”. Like the liberal Woodstock of the ’60s, thousands were rumored stranded on freeways. Some walked in to DC, ditching their cars and busses. I walked with a 5 deep 6 block long column of protesters from Pennsylvania who told me they had walked miles from where they were forced by gridlock to leave their busses. Networks including Fox News continued through the time I’m writing this at 8 p.m. local Eastern time reporting that “tens of thousands” showed up. What is up with that? When will we get some reliable reporting out of the corporate media types? UPDATE: Two days later, there is still no conclusive count of the participants. Michelle Malkin’s site goes over the whole issue on a post linked at the end of this article.
This event had been promoted as a taxpayer “tea party” but the crowd’s concerns were wide ranging, from outrage at the corrupt ACORN activists and Obama’s socialist cadre known as Czars, to Obama’s naked untruthfulness. Protesters also displayed signs mocking Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for smearing the grassroots movement as “astroturfers” and an “angry mob”.
I think this gathering should be appreciated as the extremely important historical event that it is. This is the first great conservative anti-statist manifestation in American history. The conservative movement, which developed in the post-WWII, Cold War environment has now fully matured into the most significant political movement of the 21st century. I believe that this day could be referred to in the not too distant future as the day that changed America. This was the day the great silent conservative majority finally found its voice.
Many of the attendees were quite meek and timid and were unsure of exactly what to expect, this being the first time in their lives they’d been involved in a protest movement. Their fears evaporated early in the day and people reveled in the camaraderie , the joy and sheer civility that was exhibited at the entire event. Chants of “Freedom, freedom, freedom”, “No more czars! No more czars!” carried through the air without the slightest hint of the rancor which is the norm at the many leftist rallies I have photographed over the years.
The two photos above show a tiny fraction of the multitude that surged through the American capitol. I saw signs and heard lots of comments comparing this event to Woodstock. At the time this photo was taken, around 1:00 p.m., Pennsylvania Avenue was still jammed completely, and the mall was packed from the Capitol Building past the Washington Monument. See photo here.
Protesters came from every state in the union. This man came from San Antonio, TX. He said that he was really sorry he hadn’t brought his family. He stated that being a black conservative he was unwilling to expose his children to what he expected would be a lot of liberal abuse. He was thrilled with the overall tenor of the event and the fact that no liberals were present to harass him. He spoke about how incredibly intolerant the left is to black individuals who don’t bow to the party line.
These Ohioans took a day off their rodeo bull-riding schedule. They said they’ll be back at it tomorrow.
Mike Pence (R-Indiana) was one of the speakers who addressed the crowd: “After years of fighting runaway government on this hill, you people look like the cavalry to me..I believe we are on the verge of a great American awakening.”
San Diego radio host Mason Weaver said from the podium: “I came here because I thought you might want to hear a black man speak without a teleprompter…This government is trying to make a nation of dependent people. Americans have always been independent people…This is not a Republican thing, it’s not a Democrat thing. It’s not a black thing or a white thing. It’s an American thing…We the people are telling them ‘No more! We’ve had enough!”
In the very center of the photo, above the Silence is Consent – Can You Hear Us Now sign, you can see Pennsylvania Ave., which at this time is totally blocked with protesters who cannot move forward to the Capitol area. Sorry, full up.
There were notable differences though, in the behavior of these attendees. Although the legend of Woodstock is that there was a friendly atmosphere of camaraderie, the truth is that most people were there for the drugs, sex and rock and roll. Today in D.C. there was a true kinship amongst these people based on shared values and intellectual understanding of what America is and how its future is imperiled by big radical government.
No one was having sex in the Reflecting Pool let alone the mud, and I saw no one projectile vomiting on the steps of the Capitol. There were no warnings to avoid the bad acid which would send you on a trip to the hospital. Not just a different era, but a different level of civilized behavior and thought. Oh, and by the way, these people didn’t leave tons of garbage behind when they left. Actually they left no trash behind at all.

Dictator Castro did indeed endorse Obama. Note that he used the word progressive to describe Barack? I just wanted to say thank you to all that attended this rally at the Capital. You can multiply the number by 30 or 40 to get a real sense of who wanted to be there, because believe me for everyone one of you who went there are 40 more who wanted to attend right there with you.
Sorry to have missed the “Tea Party”… The main stream media certainly missed it. I am an immigrant to this great country; have fought in two wars to defend this great democracy, and now we are under attack from within. Thank you for reminding us of the great risks our forbearers took to establish this country based on FREEDOM.

But you have to sit there for hours in emergency. Then if you need a prescription, hours more. I attended the Washington event and it was as great as it looks (I still stand by my estimate of 1 million) It felt like a gigantic block party!! Everyone had a big smile on their face and everyone was so happy to be with hundreds of thousands of others that feel the same way about our country!! I wouldn’t have missed it for the world! Go to RESISTNET.COM for information on future events and another trip to DC if we have to!! Until then, PLEASE contact your reps and OFTEN!! I’m emailing, calling, faxing and attending every teaparty and townhall I can find! We need to keep up the pressure and let them know that none of us will “forget” before next year’s mid term elections!!

Sorry, that I could not go to Washington, but I am so thankful that the caring, concerned citizens of the United States have not stood, and will not stand, by idly, and allow our country to be turned into a socialist dictatorship. These pictures make me proud to be an American! I attend Tea Parties in my city, wish I could have attended this one! We are patriots voicing our opinion. Freedom of speech means Freedom to disagree, I thank God our forefathers fought for and gave us our Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. They acknowledged God for all that we were given by Him. We must not let these be taken away from us. Some of our young people have been dumbed down and must be educated to know the great heritage this country has been given. We must pray for our country, for those who are blinded with false promises from some politicians who have their own corrupt,greedy,self-serving agenda and not serving our country they were put in office to maintain. My wife and I have seen these days coming for years. We have written hundreds of letters, sent thousands of emails and prayed thousands of prayers that God Jehovah the great I AM will guide His church and our leaders and bring us all back to Him. HE is listening! I, from the depths of my soul thank each of you for speaking out for freedom. The freedom America has known since it’s founding is the sweetest thing on earth and in heaven. There is nothing that can top that sweet feeling and knowledge that one is free. I couldn’t agree more. I am not into politics, I do not BELONG to an organization, nor do I choose to be a registered voter. However, I am well read in Global History while most Americans are not. After the 8 years of ineffective (IQ below normal) garbage, I am happy to see a change being attempted. Bush left this place a mess and he said he’d fix it after the first four years. It’s embarrassing to be an American when traveling outside the US. The south is often viewed as un-educated, close minded christian cracker racists. There are children in Europe who know more about our economics then we do. I wonder why the kids are smarter there, have better health care and less drug issues. It’s not because Europe is smaller. I have visited and lived in socialists countries for months over the summers as a child. I judge someone on what they have accomplished to make this world a better place. I think that we live in a beautiful country. I do not think that uneducated people who cannot respect others differences are beautiful. When someone say’s, “keep your government hands out of my medicare.” With comments like that, it’s clear that we are living in a place where people are concerned with how loud they speak and not with what they are saying. I had a Fiance (musician, eagle scout, good old Catholic boy) in the die in Iraq. My brother is sick and he does not have health care. These pictures sadden me. People are wasting their time attending these events when they could be out making the world a better place or better yet reading a book. Too much hate and negativity.
As a fireman, I responded to 13 years of 911 calls. As I know it, there were many individuals-citizens and not that the fire department would treat and transport who NEVER paid their bill. Many individuals out there know how to use and ABUSE the system; so us responsible people pay for their medical bills. DON’t allow it to get even worse!!!!!!
I thought this was very interesting but was really mad when I could not see the event on the news and all the webcams for DC were down for the day. AS a disenchanted voter, I’m hoping that maybe somebody in Washington will start listening and I’m glad that people organized enough to flood the area. Worries me that our president is more interested in himself then the country. He had a talent that people could have listened to and he could have used it for good but he used it only for feeding his own ego and eliminating some good solid principles this country had. Next election is far away but hoping there will be a better balance in government then one party in power who does not hear the people.
We can pick up America by her bootstraps if the congress and senate would list the issues, address them pragmatically and cite the true facts that govern their vote…

Canada’s war started in 1939 and a number of my uncles and my father joined up the day after Canada declared war on Germany. They were all in till 45. Dieppe Normandy Africa Italy Holland North Atlantic Mediterranean are some of the places they saw heavy action. They all survived but almost never spoke about it. Today Canada fights in Afghanistan with the second largest force and the highest casualty rate just like WWII. God bless the English speaking people and all those who fight against tyranny. Carol, just how small a military do you want? The military pay now is below what “progressives” concider poverty level. Guess you’re wanting something like a small police force. My brothers, father, 2 family friends and I were there!!! I was amazed at how respectful everyone was being of one another, the grounds of the Capitol, the police (even thanking them for their service that day), and at least 50 people PERSONALLY thanked my father for service to our country (he’s retired Army…Vietnam Veteran).
Thank GOD for these true PATRIOTS! Wish I could have been there, but I was there in Heart & Soul. November 2010 we will take our country back and November 2012 we will rid ourselves of the worst President in American history (yes, even worse than Carter).

Wow – I just want to say this brought tears to my eyes tears of pride. Thank you to each and everyone who is trying to stand up for our great America. May we all work together peacefully and beaming with pride for what this country of America stands for – be proud to be an American – be proud!
All elected offices should have a two term limit. Bring control of the government back to the voters who invest their trust in a public servant for a limited time. Only after sitting out for one term that individual may reenter for that same office again. Career minded public servants can move up the field until the ‘Peter Principle’ kicks in on their talent, skills, and capabilities.
Patriots rise up in defence of your country – protect your constitution and your rights while you can. A government big enough to “take care of everything” is big enough to take everything.
Now if only these folks could talk about Defense Dept. waste with the same fervor, just think, there might even be enough over to pay for single payer health care, without any overruns.

I too wish I could have attended. ‘We the People’ have trusted our elected officials for far too long to do the right thing. It seems that they have decided that their power and their party is more important than supporting our Constitution and their constituents to the detriment of our liberties. Despite being out of work for 2 yrs now (unfairly fired from a Mortgage Svcg Co after 17 yrs), I was there with my husband from Jacksonville, FL. It was fantastic camaraderie, a whole wide variety of Americans with shared values/concerns. It is important for us to be active participants. I’m not able to guess HOW MANY we were but it had to have been AT LEAST Half a Million… We missed hearing Lloyd Marcus’ song but am grateful you’ve attached it here. We did made it to the grassy area in front of the Speakers’ Platform to hear Jim DeMint speak (God bless him).
Did everyone hear David Axelrod’s comments that WE DID NOT REPRESENT AMERICA and WE WERE ALL WRONG? Bah and humbug! How easily the lies come from progressive lips!

We were there and overwelmed by the quality of the people at the Rally… Friendly, Polite and not a scrap of litter left anywhere except in and around the garbage cans! The Rally gave us hope that “We The People” will not let this administration distroy this county. Too many American died for Freedom!!! The theme of the Rally is KEEP IT GOING!! We have been busy working and raising our families for the last 30 years while the fringe liberals have been plotting to take it over and we know NOW that the Fringe Media is an Accomplice! The General Election” is NOT the most important election!!! The “popular vote” (yours & mine) does NOT count…only the Electoral Vote does. I’m originally from Tennessee. I’ve lived in California since1990 and have increasingly grown concerned about my govt.
I wanted to attend the 9/12 march on washington but could not. I was so worried that too many people would have the same situation. I consider active participation my personal responsibility… as should every Patriotic American.
I’m so pleased this was such a sucess! …and I wonder how many wonderful Americans wanting to attend this weekend were in the same situation as me.

I am a “wacko” conservative but I’m not nuts! Whatever so called mess Bush created in the past 8 years is being far out done by this administration. The difference right now is in the American people. We weren’t very responsible at the polls but it is refreshing to see that we are waking up and taking action. We are not Dead yet! American citizens are finally making their voices heard though I do not think this matters much to this administration. They are doing all they can to come up with new ways to rope us in to their way of thinking but it won’t work. We may in the end have to live under their new rules and health care dictatorship but we won’t go down without a fight!
In all my years I have never heard so much name calling coming from the lips of a President and House speaker and many others in Congress. Either they are running scared that they won’t get their way or this is one their so called scare tactics. If so, they are learning that the people of the United States of America are not Scared! We are awake!
I was at the Little Rock, AR. TEA party this year and am I so very glad and PROUD that I was. This TEA party is not about Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Whigs or any other party. This is about America and what the presidency and the liberal left-wing extremist/fanatics are trying to socialize/communize our great nation. We are a Christian nation as opposed to Obama telling the world that we are not. As a former USN sailor, whenever we encountered a ship from another nation, they lowered their flag before we lowered ous as a salute. We raised ours first before they raised theirs. Obama had the odasity to bow before a king of a lower nation!!!! How embarassing and insulting to the American people. IMPEACH OBAMA. Thank you for the photographs. The only report I heard from the very left leaning media was “a few thousand” showed up for the event. I knew there had to be more. Pictures don’t lie, the media does.
For those that haven’t realized what is going on, remember what happened to the Jews and READ Obama’s proposal. Hopefully Americans will wake up before they have to see their loved ones “put to sleep” because their life does not measure up to the Obama’s QUALITY OF LIFE bill. When will all Americans finally wake up to the fact that Obama and the hidden powers behind him are now in the process of implanting people like Jones in as many places as possible with the intention of overthrowing our country and eventually supplanting our constitution with Marxists type doctrine. I cannot over emphasize these dates:
2010, replace Congress with real Americans.

I had the second megaphone there and mine was large. I came up from North Carolina with a friend. She and I had a ball. We wouldn’t have missed this for the world. We rode into DC Saturday morning with a 300 person, 6 bus group from Westminster, MD. Even the bus ride was fun.
